About Yazzy's Yarn

Hi, I’m Sian (pronounced like “yarn”… but with an “sh” 😄), the hands behind Yazzy’s Yarn.

What started as a love for colour and creativity has grown into an Australian yarn business where I hand-dye every yarn cake right here in my home studio in Canberra. It’s really about those quiet moments at the end of the day, when you finally get to sit down, pick up your hook, and make something just for you.

I’m a crocheter myself, and that shapes everything I create. I know how frustrating it can be when colours don’t quite work together, or when you’re trying to plan a project and nothing feels quite right. I also know the little things that make a difference… like tools that are easy to use and actually enjoyable to reach for.

One of the biggest reasons I started Yazzy’s Yarn was because I struggled to find colour palettes I loved for the blankets I wanted to make. The big brand yarn shops just didn’t have the range I was looking for, so I started creating my own… and now I get to share them with you.

I’ve always been drawn to colour… the kind that makes you pause and think “oh I love that.” I focus on creating palettes that feel intentional, with soft gradients that flow and solids that pair beautifully, so you can spend less time second-guessing and more time making.

I specialise in hand-dyed, plant-based cotton yarn. It’s breathable, durable, and perfect for projects you’ll actually use and love… from garments to blankets to everyday makes. Cotton is especially lovely for blankets, particularly if you’re making gifts for babies or small children. It’s soft, practical, and easy to care for, as it’s machine washable (unlike wool), which makes it ideal for everyday use. It’s also a more eco-conscious choice, which is something I try to carry through my whole business.

My yarn is a little different from other hand-dyed yarns. Each cake is wound and ready to use, so there’s no need to deal with hanks or wind anything yourself. I also include a small “start here” sticker tucked into each cake to help you find the end easily (and avoid that dreaded yarn tangle). My gradient boxes are built in steps from light to dark, and my solid colours are designed to match and extend them, so everything works together effortlessly.

Alongside yarn, I also create stitch markers, needle minders, and other little helpers for your project bags. They’re designed to make your crochet easier and more enjoyable, while still feeling a bit special.

Every order is packed by me, often with a curious little helper nearby (usually trying to inspect the packaging tape 😅). I’m so grateful you’re here and choosing to support an Australian business. It truly means the world.
